POWER UPDATES

Welcome to POWER! Here are a few updates on our recent activities:

1. Our listserv is now LIVE! We encourage you to use the listserv to reach out to other POWER members if you want to advertise for graduate students or post-doctoral researchers, have a professional issue that you are struggling with, or want to get insight on a hot topic in the field. We will also use the listserv to send monthly e-mails to keep our membership informed of upcoming opportunities, networking events, and new professional development materials. 
2. Our website includes a number of materials for our members that we believe will help you to further your career. We have a public News and Information page that includes professional development blog posts, such as “how to write more”, and good news updates. The News and Information page also includes a growing list of resources, including tips concerning the academic job market. We expect our repository of information to grow over time, so please touch base with us and let us know your thoughts and wish lists!  
3. We encourage you to use our database to find other individuals who identify as a woman or non-binary to collaborate with you. Ideas include inviting someone to be part of your next symposium or serve as a consultant on your next grant. We need to model the change we want to see in academia.

 
That’s it for now, but we’ll be in touch again soon about our plans for the future. As a preview of things to come, we have identified some outstanding senior women scholars in the field who will be serving as informal mentors of members of POWER. We are also developing some new resources and are planning our next in-person event.
